Alphen aan den Rijn Mayor and entourage have arrived in Oudtshoorn

Mr Hans van Arkel, Mr Wim de Gelder and Ms Wendy Pelk this morning (02/11/2009) in the council chambers in Oudtshoorn. The new mayor of Alphen aan den Rijn in the Netherlands, Mr Wim de Gelder, the financial officer and deputy municipal manager, Ms Wendy Pelk, and the international relations co-ordinator, Mr Hans van Arkel, arrived in Oudtshoorn last night on a three-day fact finding mission aimed at strengthening ties with the Oudtshoorn Municipality.A full progamme awaits Gelder and his team today.  This will include a power point presentation on Oudtshoorn, the presentation and discussion of a social housing project, a visit to the Kammaland Kleuterskool as well as  the Centre of Hope.  The Alphen delegation will also meet executive members of the Oudtshoorn Business Chamber this evening.Other events the three delegates will attend over the following days include the unveiling of  HIV/AIDS awareness bill boards on  Tuesday as well as Alphen/Oudtshoorn welcoming boards at the town’s entrances,  and a special council meeting on Wednesday on the twinning agreement between Oudtshoorn and Alphen aan den Rijn .
